Resolutions for 2018

By now you have no doubt lost ten pounds and kicked the cigarette habit. Hope the rest of your resolutions are coming along as smashingly.

Truth of the matter is that some of the changes we wish to experience are worked out over time not over night. But real change is really possible. We aren’t doomed to stay just as we are today. That’s good news for most of us.

Where lack of discipline, disorder and inattentiveness has worked to produce less than healthy conditions, God’s Word offers wisdom to bring about real change and positive growth as the weeks of the New Year go by.

What if you were to apply God’s Word this year to the benefit of your family and home? It’s not easy maintaining a strong and loving family today. We too often forget just how valuable our family relationships really are to us.

Home life will have effect on all of life.

So maybe a few resolutions can be introduced to the home that will help the family stand together through the year and weather days of difficulty and share days of delight.

1. Resolve to be resolved. “Choose this day whom you will serve, But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Josh. 24:15)

2. Anger and unkind words are hereby evicted. “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.” (Prov. 14:29)

3. Everyone gets a hearing. “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” (Ja. 1:19)

4. The ‘Welcome’ on the doormat will be the truth. “Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” (1 Pet. 4:9)

5. Hugs all around (whether you want to or not.) “Let us love one another, for love is from God.” (1 Jn. 4:7) “Love one another earnestly from a pure heart.” (1 Pet. 1:22)

6. Phrases to be put to regular use: “I am sorry.” and “I forgive you.” “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Eph. 4:32)

7. Never give up! (on each other). “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Gal. 6:9,10)
