Why "Genesis"?

Open a Bible and the first line reads, “In the beginning…” And then comes the unveiling of all that God wants us to know about who He is and who we are, how things were, how it got messed up, and how it can be made right. We learn immediately how great God is, how we can know Him, and how He wants us to relate to one another.

Revealed within moments is the Creator’s design for work, gender, marriage, family, sin, Satan, and salvation. This is valuable information offered by the One who made it all, especially helpful for a world gone crazy. Maybe my world can make sense when I discover what His world was meant to be.

“In the beginning God…”
Before the first sentence is complete we are made aware that God is and always was.

Not only is God eternal, He is mighty.

“…the heavens and the earth…”
God’s might moves with intention.  All things came into being by His Word and at His direction.

“…and God said, ‘Let there be light.’…”
Where there is chaos He is able to bring calm.  And where darkness rules He brings light.

That Word and that Light were embodied in the person of Jesus Christ.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,  and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God… All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness... and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us…”  – John 1:1–5,14
